Bayonet Damage Mechanics
Damage dealt with the bayonet ranges from 100-240 to the body or 500-1200 when the head is struck. The amount of damage the "shove" deals is retrieved by the formula y=20n—or y=20n*(5) in the event of a head shot—where n is a randomly selected value no less than 5, and no greater than 12, y of course being the total damage dealt.
This means that one is, in theory, always able to kill a standard shambler in a single thrust to the head on casual or classic difficulty, as they have a maximum of 500 health, though this is often precluded by the finicky nature of "ray" based attacks against zombie hit boxes (e.g. attacks colliding with a zombie's arms or shoulder, even though it appeared as though it hit its head), as well as the general need to evade pursuant undead.
